The way it works today

If you've ever organised an event in Zimbabwe, you know the routine. You post the flyer with your EcoCash number. Payments trickle in one at a time, each followed by a screenshot on WhatsApp: "I've sent, please confirm." You cross-check the screenshot against your statement, add the name to a list in a WhatsApp group or a notebook, and move on to the next one. Multiply that by two hundred tickets and it's a part-time job.

Then there's the door. Printed tickets that can be copied. Cash at the gate and a float you have to manage and account for. Someone insisting they paid but the name isn't on the list — do you turn them away or take the risk? And when it's all over, you have no real record of who came, what sold when, or who to invite next time.

None of this is because organisers are disorganised. It's because the tools weren't built for how ticket sales actually happen here. That's what Marii Tickets fixes.

What is Marii Tickets?

Marii Tickets is a tool that lets you sell tickets to your event online and get paid directly. You set up your event, share a link, and buyers pay and receive their tickets on their own — no screenshots, no manual confirmations, no cash at the gate.

From event to entry, step by step

1

Create your event

In the Marii dashboard, create your event: name, date, time, venue, and a description. Then set up your ticket types — for example General, VIP, and Golden Circle — each with its own price and capacity. You're in control of what you sell and how many of each.

2

Publish your ticket types

When you're happy with the details, publish your ticket types. This is the moment your tickets go on sale — and the only moment you pay Marii anything (more on pricing below).

3

Share your event link

Your event gets a link you can post anywhere — WhatsApp statuses and groups, Facebook, Instagram, the flyer itself. Buyers open the link, pick their tickets, and pay via EcoCash or card. No back-and-forth with you.

4

Tickets arrive by email as QR codes

As soon as payment goes through, the buyer's ticket lands in their email as a QR code. Each ticket is unique. No printing on your side, no lists to maintain — the guest list builds itself as tickets sell.

5

Scan at the door with the free gate app

On event day, your door staff scan QR codes with the free gate app — it runs on any device. It works offline too, caching the guest list, so patchy venue data won't hold up your queue. One QR code means one entry: duplicates and screenshots of already-used tickets are rejected automatically. No more "but I paid" arguments at the gate.

6

The money is already in your account

Because buyers pay through your own payment gateway, the money from every sale settles directly in your account — not in ours. There's no payout to wait for from Marii, because Marii never held your money in the first place.

How payments work

Buyers pay with whatever payment methods you enable — typically EcoCash, Visa/Mastercard, or bank transfer. You connect your own payment gateway to Marii: Pesepay, Paynow, or Stripe. Every ticket sale settles directly into your account through that gateway.

This matters more than it sounds. Marii never touches the money, holds no funds on your behalf, and adds no per-sale commission. How quickly the money reaches you is set by your gateway, not by us — we're never in the middle.

If you haven't connected a gateway before, our Bring Your Own Gateway guide walks you through it.

What your buyers experience

For buyers, it's deliberately simple: no app to download, no account to create. They open your link, pick a ticket, pay, and the QR code arrives in their email. A screenshot of it works at the gate, and when enabled they can add the ticket to Apple or Google Wallet. That's the whole thing.

What it costs

Marii Tickets charges 3% of the ticket face value, paid once when you publish a ticket type. That's it — not per sale, no subscription, no gate fees. Once a ticket type is published, every sale after that is yours in full.

Free events pay a flat $5. And before you commit to anything, the dashboard shows you the exact fee for what you're publishing — no surprises.

Short on cash upfront? You can pay the publishing fee in tickets instead of cash — useful when the budget is tight before ticket sales start coming in.
