The State of Loyalty Programmes in Zimbabwe
The saving you missed this week is probably in a drawer at home, on a loyalty card you forgot to bring. Money is tight and we all shop around for the best price. The shops know it, so nearly every one now has points, stickers or a draw to bring you back. Here are the five you will run into most, what you actually get from each, and the one that has given away cows.
1. SPAR Rewards
SPAR’s app holds your card. Scan it at the till and the trolley earns points, and once you have enough they pay for the shopping, or all of it. There are digital stickers towards free products too, and the card can go into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
2. InnBucks at Simbisa
At Chicken Inn, Pizza Inn, Creamy Inn and Bakers Inn, InnBucks gives you at least 1% back on whatever you buy. It also solves the change problem: if the till has no coins, your change goes onto your InnBucks and you spend it next time, instead of taking a sweet. It works in the app or by dialling *569#.
3. Puma Pris
Fuel is the one thing you cannot shop around on, so the points matter. Puma Pris gives you points every time you fill up and at the forecourt shop. You spend them on fuel, Shop Express products or vouchers.
4. EcoCash ChakaChaya
You already pay with EcoCash, so you might as well be counted. In a ChakaChaya season every dollar earns a point, double on the app. Twenty points in a week gets you into the draws for airtime, grocery vouchers, phones and cows. The catch is that it is a season, not all year, and the last one ended in August 2025.
5. The stamp card at your local
Not a brand, but the one most of us actually use. Your barber, your butcher, the lady with the best coffee near work: buy nine and the tenth is free. Nothing beats it for simplicity, and nothing is easier to lose.
Five programmes, one wallet
That is three apps, a USSD code, a plastic card and a paper one going soft in your back pocket. Everyone has stood at a till and realised the card they needed is at home. That is the saving walking out of the door.
Marii Cards carries them for you. Point your camera at a card and the app reads its barcode. At the till you tap it and the code fills your screen. No account, no sign-in, free on the App Store and Google Play. A few shops still want the plastic itself, so keep it for them. The programmes stay theirs; Marii just makes sure the card is never at home.
