FAQ

Questions shop owners ask

Straight answers on how the credit is held, what stops misuse, what happens when the network drops, and which shops Marii Credit is actually for.

Is the credit real money on the card?+

No value ever sits on the card — it is an identifier. Every cent lives in a ledger with a full audit trail, so a lost card loses nothing: staff link a replacement and the balance is exactly where it was.

What stops a customer spending credit that isn’t theirs?+

Spending needs proof of possession — their card tapped or the rotating code on their phone scanned. A phone number alone can receive change but can never spend.

What happens when the network is down?+

The till keeps working. Transactions queue on the device and send themselves when the signal returns, and the customer’s code on their phone is generated on the phone itself — no data needed on either side.

Do customers need to install an app?+

No. The SMS they receive links to their credit in the browser — every card they hold, and a code to pay at the till. It works on any phone with a browser.

Can the customer cash the credit out?+

No. Credit is not exchangeable for cash and not transferable — it is spent at your till, on your goods. That is the point.

Is this for every shop?+

It is built for shops customers already return to — the neighbourhood supermarket, the butchery, the pharmacy. If your trade is one-off walk-ins, this is not your product, and we will tell you so.
